EUGENIO FUENTES FROM C.N. TRAVIESAS, WILL TRY TO SWIMM ACROSS THE STRAITS OF GIBRALTAR.

Swimming across will commence as from Tarifa island and complete in the Maroccan Coast, Punta Cires, or any other point eastward. It is not permitted to go shore to the west of Cires, becouse of prohibition of the Maroccan authorites.

Gratest problem the straits has, its that the space has to be share with large ships which go through to or from the Meditarranean, ferries, fast-vessels, and all type of boats, sailing from Tanger and Ceuta, and Algeciras, Gibraltar and Tarifa.

In such a short space, it results quite difficult to fit in a group of swimmers with their smalls boats, going much slower and much less, and acuppying the shore waters too long.

In view of the situation, it is only possible swimming, when the sea current is getting yourselves to the east, and when the wind is gentle and goes to the east as well; In view of the above, it shoud fit between the sunrise and the sunset, since its not allowed to swim at night , so the possibilities are reduced. The thing is to get the high tide to be after noontime , there is no mist, and westerly winds.
Up to now weather is not good. Eugenio, with his canarian partners on this challenger, looks forward to the weather forecast to be the suitable, and the association will give the green ligth to commence the challenge.
